AUGUST SKY

08/18/07

I am sorry to say that August is actually NOT my favorite month of the year.BUT, I also know myself well enough to know that some things which were never my favorites somehow turn out to be just that!It isn't August in itself, but what it represents to me which is unnerving. The nights turn cold the last two weeks of August bringing in football weather which lets me know that the gray, gloomy days of raining ice will be returning to Southwestern Pennsylvania. I do think I am one of the SAD ones and I need many lights to keep me from this depressed feeling. My husband tries to build me up and tell me to just take things as they come...I know that, but it is easier said than done! He has no fear of driving in snow and will go up our hill, if he can't make it he will turn around in the middle of it and SLIDE back down. That is not for me. He enjoys all the autumn leaves turning their reds, golds, yellows and browns and the cold nights and not having to cut the grass twice a week in winter. We are direct opposites in that respect.Being optimistic and realizing all the blessings which our God has given to me, I have to say that sitting out on 'the porch' this morning I do not know how we could have more of a piece of Heaven. The emerald green of the trees on the hills and looking through them is the huge, blue, blue 'not a cloud in the sky' sky! The colors are so intense in August. The moon seems to be oranger, the sunshine seems yellower, the sky seems bluer, the days are becoming quieter, the river will be getting colder, the nights will soon be longer. There were three hummingbirds just humming along, flying right near me, they were talking to one another. They will be ready soon to leave our home for where ever it is they go.At this time of the morning, clear across the horizon, far as the eye can see is the totally cloudless, huge, bright blue AUGUST SKY!
