"Boydie, The Birdie"

09/18/07

Years ago when the kids were little, we lived in the project in Perryopolis. Our house had a large yard for them to play in and it was at the end of the project near the woods. One day while playing they discovered an injured Robin and naturally they brought it home and we were trying to slowly nurse it back to health.Having a wild bird running all over the house was strange. He couldn't fly yet, but Boydie could really move on! He made himself at home and useful and did his own job by getting in all the corners of the house and seeing if there was a tiny spider or another insect he could find. Being allowed to just wonder the house, he would flap his wings and little feathers would fly all over the place.Eventually his wing healed and he was able to fly. All the family wanted to keep Boydie but, after all, he was a wild bird and needed to go. It was just as well because we had him at the time I was very ill from too much penicillin and Eddie felt that maybe a wild bird and all his featherdown would also contribute to my allergic reactions, so he was happy to let this bird go. Even so, in that short time of a few weeks, we had all learned to love "Boydie, the birdie" and it was a sad day when he left us!
