BREATHE IN THE SMELL OF 'HOME'

08/17/07
Have you ever been away from home and you were so homesick you pined and pined in agony of wanting to be HOME? I have and I can tell you that it is awful and devastating! And when you finally come home and you smell the fragrances and nuances of family you are used to, you could kiss your kitchen floor you are so thankful to be safe and sound at home? I have.I think of the veterans serving so far away and of people who have had to leave their home because of floods or hurricanes, or because they lost their home to a foreclosure or a fire. I think of their agony and know what it is to miss the smell of home. When my aunt Katy and uncle Joe passed away I inherited their bedroom set. I put pillow cases, small blankets, and sheets in the chest of drawers. Their home had a fragrance that I missed so much when they passed away. Even now when I change the bedclothes, the fragrance of them permeates the room and it is a wonderful memory of all my and our grandson Sean's visits to THEIR home on Saturday afternoons. The fragrance of each home is so special. I can understand why a little child loves to carry their security blanket around with them. Isn't it wonderful, the smell of HOME?
