I'm Only Their Mother!

04/19/07
Jobs around here were hard to find years ago. The steel mills were always laying off their workers. It usually took quite a while to get unemployment and by the time it was to start, the mill called the workers back and then it would be another month before the two week pays started again. So, my brother-in-law decided he was going to New Jersey to look for a job and that my sister Arlene would come home with her two children who were quite little. These children could do no wrong in my eyes. It was the same for our mother and dad. She couldn't correct them in front of us because we didn't see anything they did wrong.Arlene would say to us, "I'm only their mother!" She would be so frustrated with us. Looking back on those days, I can see how she would have gotten angry and perturbed with this doting sister, Grandma and Grandpap. I can just imagine her joy to see her husband come home and take them back to their own home.Life went on, the kids grew up, had their own and will be having grandbabies of their own, but I can still remember their antics and how wonderful I thought they were!
