Nostalgia Lane (Part 8)
06/02/07
Thinking about the long summer days, walking up the river road to go swimming, and seeing the layers of heat coming off the road brings back so many memories. There is a sense of quietness almost like playing hookie from school during this time between being in school and school ending. Children so grateful to be out of school slowly become more and more ready for it to begin again. (Where did those thoughts come from, they wonder?) But, my mother always told me you can always have too much of a good thing! That is true. That is why "All things come to pass!" And, we begin again! After all the swimming and playing and just hanging out in my mother's cool kitchen during those last two weeks of summer I would see that most of the girls would get their "perms" (mothers hoping these perms and the money they spent on them would last all the school year!). Shopping for school clothes had begun and another year's adventure also.Ever notice there is even a difference in the shadows on the roads at different times of the year. Sometimes it is hard to see holes in the road while driving because of the shadows.Ever notice how quiet and subdued the Earth seems on the first day of school and a sense of sadness because the kids are not home with you?We go on each day, we begin new things, time passes and we remember memories, good memories best of all!
