YELLOW JACKETS

08/21/06
I have been unhappy for the last week. With the hot weather and no rain,
we had become over run with yellow jackets. Do not believe the old adage, "If you do not bother them, they won't bother you!" That doesn't work. Soon as I step out the door they are flying after me. When they sting my husband, he swats it off and goes about his business. When I was stung on just a finger, the venom was obviously travelling up my finger to my hand to my wrist on up to the elbow and swells to twice the size! Even though I put the baking soda and the vinegar on. This year I would know to use lavender for a skin problem. But, I will not take the chance in getting stung.

These yellow jackets took over my porches, my hummingbird feeders, each part of my yard which I love. We purchased the trap and hung it in the back yard to no avail. Not one went in it. They came to the feeders instead.

Thank God that this morning it is cold. I was able to go out on the porch and sit and think again. The hummingbirds were coming to the feeder. They are so intelligent in looking at each little flower opening and going all around the feeder to make sure there is no yellow jacket lurking there before they take their drink.

Living next to a forest of trees, we have all manner of spiders, bees, little black snakes with white rings around their necks; it takes getting used to and living in a harmony, but I will never live in harmony with yellow jackets!___
